Diana – Feb 2013 (English)

We had a fantastic time in Sri Lanka and learned so much about it thanks to Sarath and his driver Suwa . We enjoyed it all, so it is hard to pick out the highlights, but digging out the hatchling turtles has to be one of the most memorable things we have ever done and, despite the rain and the strain on our legs, our climb up Adam’s Peak was a unique morning which showed us a different way of life. We enjoyed everything – the animals, the plants, the sea, the climate and the food!

Having decided on a rough itinerary, on the personal recommendation of a friend, we left the logistical arrangements to Sarath, and they worked like clockwork from our arrival at Colombo to the drop-off for the return flight at an anti-social 02.15. Not only did we see all the sights that we had specified in advance, but Sarath showed us things that we didn’t know existed, for example the temple coconut grinder, and the cinnamon-oil plantation, and he was at pains to make sure we were able to experience the best of Sri Lanka; be it the food, (his wife, Geetha, cooked for us on several occasions) the views, or the culture, and was knowledgeable about the wildlife, customsĀ  and religion. Sarath was unfailingly cheerful and friendly, and travelling with him also made it easier to engage with the local people, pay and tip the right amount, and to avoid misunderstandings.
Many thanks.
